KZN VALLEY DOGS is predominantly a rural feeding scheme run by a group of ordinary folks with ordinary 8-5 jobs, who decided to help the animals belonging to the communities of Inanda and Shongweni. For almost TEN years we have been going into these areas every Sunday without fail where we feed approximately 1,500 dogs and 300 cats every week. We cook up a mixture of pet’s mince and rice and add this to the Dry food and feed on site using 4 vehicles that do 4 predetermined routes stopping approximately 25 times each to feed groups of animals ranging from one or two per stop to up to 100+. In addition to the feeding, we also offer basic health care, deworming, parasite control etc. For the more seriously injured or ill we run an account at Hillcrest Vets where these animals receive the best vet care possible. We pride ourselves in educating the community on basic pet care, especially the children, and in fact a group of youngsters accompany us every week, helping us and acting as translators where needed. These kids are very proud of the part that they are now playing in their communities with regards to the correct treatment of their pets. We have seen a huge change in mindset over the years and it is wonderful to see how many of these animals are now valued as important members of the family.
