Stray Paws South Africa

The mission of Stray Paws, a volunteer-run, non-profit animal welfare organization, is to rescue sick, abandoned, abused, injured, or surrendered homeless animals in need of love, care, and a new home. Sterilizations are our primary mandate. In order to prevent the spread of diseases, starvation, and reproduction, we sterilize a large number of animals from rural and impoverished areas through our MASS STERILIZATION PROJECT. In these impoverished areas, we collaborate with veterinarians who help us with sterilization as well as the establishment and management of sterilization clinics. We sterilize up to 60 animals on a weekend by taking our vets with mobile clinics into the heart of the townships. Additionally, animals receive vaccinations, dewormings, and medical attention for minor illnesses. Through our TOWNSHIP FEEDING PROJECT, we feed up to 190 animals every day in the townships and animals from disadvantaged backgrounds whose owners are unable to feed them. To meet the demand, food is needed every week. The goal of our TOWNSHIP PET EDUCATION PROJECT is to teach pet owners and the township children how to handle and care for, and love animals and not to abuse or hurt them. Our biggest challenge is funding; without it, we are unable to help these impoverished communities with the care of their animals. To raise money for these projects, we hold flea markets, raffles, and auctions, and we depend on the generous public.
